Movie Review
Narasimham (Suriya) is a tough and sincere sub-inspector. He gets posting in his own village Rajole in East Godavari district. Though he is interested to help his father (Radha Ravi) who was running a provision shop. But his father wants him to be a cop and hence becomes an SI. He settles issues in the village amicably by talking to both the parties and maintains law and order. Their family is quite respectable by everyone. Sravya, daughter of a businessman in Vizag visits their grandparents’ village Rajole and loses her heart to Narasimham. She likes his upright manner and righteous nature attracts her. The latter too okays her proposal. Jagannadham (Prakash Raj) is a local goon, who used to extort money from real estate businessmen and other top businessmen in Vizag. Once he threatens an NRI and attempts to extort money from him. But that old man sends an e-mail to his children in the US and commits suicide. They complain to US embassy and the police were forced to file a case and he gets a conditional bail. As the NRI belongs to Rajole, Jagannatham had to sign in the police station once in a week. He tries to send a proxy in his place but Narasimham makes him to come all the way from Vizag. This irks Jagannatham, who gets him transferred to Vizag on a promotion. Jagannatham tries to warn Narasimham, saying that Vizag was his fortress. But, Narasimham with his sincerity finds that Jagannatham does not only extort money from businessmen but was in the habit of kidnapping rich girls and extract ransom from the people. He arrests some of Jagannatham’s henchmen and proves that he is a kidnapper. So, the Home Minister (Vijaykumar) promotes him as ACP to tackle the kidnaps issue. Then the cat and mouse game starts. In the process, Narasimham encounters Jagannatham’s brother Vaikuntam (Aadi). Enraged over his brother’s death, Jagannatham kidnaps the daughter of Karnataka Home Minister. How Jagannatham rescued the girl? What happened to the love between Narasimham and Sravya? How Narasimham tackled Jagannatham? What kind of punishment he gave to Jagannatham? Answers to all these questions form part of the climax.
PERFORMANCE:
Suriya stole the show with his ebullient performance. His body language, dancing skills, ease in action scenes and everything gave an excellent screen presence. Anushka was perfect suit to the character. Though she did not get much chance to show her acting talents, she filled the glamour slot. She was romantic and sexiest in the song sequences. She shook legs with Suriya with utmost precision and caught the attention of the mass audiences. Vivek gave his best performance and succeeded cent per cent in evoking laughter in the film. Prakash Raj once again proved that he is second to none in performance. It is improper to review his performance as he was in the habit of outsmart all the artistes with his acting talents. Other artistes including Vijaykumar, Radha Ravi, Manorama and others did justice to their respective roles.
TECHNICAL:
Music by Devisri Prasad was quite melodious and won the appreciation of the youth and mass audiences. Though the tunes appeared to be heard already, the choreography of songs helped him to overcome this drawback. The re-recording was good. Cinematography by Priyan is another highlight of the film and perfectly captured all the emotions, action scenes and songs to suit the director’s taste. Dialogues by Sashank Vennelakanti are good in parts. Gnanavel Raja’s production values are good. Last but not the least, the screenplay and direction by Hari were perfect to the core. The director succeeded in keeping the audiences to stick to their seats with his perfect directorial abilities. He had earlier directed nine films and this was his 10th film and he was able to capture the pulse of the youth and mass audiences. Moreover, this is the third film in the combination of Suriya for him. So they both had good understanding.
REMARKS:
It was proved that cop stories don't necessarily mean the hero bashing goons, mouthing punch dialogues or standing stiff. The director proved that s sincere police officer can be simple, straightforward and could accomplish his mission through mind-games. Incidentally, this is the 25th film for Suriya. His performance stood to the expectations of the audiences. Though the city audiences could treat it as an action entertainer, the film would definitely run with good crowds in B and C centres. Watch the film for Suriya’s action scenes and Anushka’s glamour.
