Unimpressive story for a debut hero
Adityababu has become a popular name in the Tollywood, as he had produced two films like ‘Jagadam’ with Ram and ‘Arya-2’ with Allu Arjun. However, the producer had a passion for acting and thought of making an on-screen presence. In order to gain grip and learn more about films and film-making, he produced the films, before making his debut. Learning the problems and convenience in film-making and with moderate hits to his credit, he had come up with a film with himself as hero on his own banner. He chose Madesh, who had three hits in Kannada film industry, and at the same time selected a successful Malayalam film and the director adopted the story with some changes to suit the taste of Telugu audiences.
Subba Rao @ Subbu (Adityababu) is a talented guy and he is ready to help anyone who is in need. He enters into quarrels with others, in order to help someone. As a result, the police register cases against him in almost all the police stations. As he behaves like a ruffian, he could not stay in any college for long. His mother (Hema) is a lecturer in a women’s college. Her college principal (Kavita) wants to introduce co-education system in their college, but the parents do not agree, as they joined their daughter in the college because they felt that it would be safe for them from falling in love with boys and bring headaches to them. However, the principal uses her discretionary power to give seat to a boy to prove that she had an upper hand against the wishes of the parents. She gives seat to Subbu. Like in every college, this college also has two rival groups with one group led by Subbalakshmi @ Lakshmi (Roma) and the other group led by another girl (Sairabanu). Lakshmi starts ragging on Subbu and makes him to wear a petticoat. This causes ruckus and the parents allege indecency. As a result, the principal suspends both Lakshmi and Subbu for 15 days. Later, during the elections to the college, Lakshmi’s rival contests as chairman, and Lakshmi, who develops rapport with Subbu, takes advantage and submits nomination. The rival withdraws from contest and Subbu gets elected unanimously. The friendship between Subbu and Lakshmi grows. Lakshmi’s father (Rao Ramesh) looks for an alliance, but Lakshmi behaves that she has some problem in her speech (Natti), and tries to avoid the prospective groom. However, the groom accepts her learning that she is just pretending. Now, Lakshmi is unable to judge whether her friendship with Subbu is attraction or love. Her father suggests her to get the proposal from Subbu. What happened to her love? Did Subbu proposes to Lakshmi? What makes Lakshmi that Subbu is really in love with her? What kind of act of Subbu makes everyone realise that he is a good boy and only implicated in cases because of his helping nature? Did Lakshmi marry the boy whom her father selected or Subbu? Answers to all these questions form part of the climax.
PERFORMANCE:
Adityababu who made his debut did a neat job. However, he is yet to improve his body language, histrionics and also the dialogue modulation. He also need to shed some of his weight to continue his career as actor. He is unable to express the feelings properly and could not emote well in romantic and sentiment scenes. Roma’s chemistry with Adityababu is quite poor. Though she had the talent in acting, she had become too short and the combination of the hero and heroine was not that impressive. Though Biyanka appeared in a few scenes in the film and shook legs in a song, she made her presence felt in the film. Brahmanandam failed to bring smiles to audiences, but Suman Setty filled the gap. Chandramohan, Pragati, Kavita, Rao Ramesh, Ahuti Prasad did justice to their roles. Especially, the way Ahuti Prasad modulates his voice is impressive.
TECHNICAL:
Music by Harikrishna is good in parts. Though a couple of tunes are catchy, he is yet to work hard to give good beats to the songs. The re-recording, however, was very unimpressive and most of the scenes became unimpressive in the absence of good background score. There is no punch in dialogues and the film appeared like a TV serial because of poor dialogues. Camera work by Balamurugan is just okay while Marthand K Venkatesh had no scope to use his skills because of the poor narration and screenplay. It is not known how Madesh had got three hits in Kannada film industry. The screenplay is pathetic and many scenes appear quite disjointed. He failed to explain the theme of the film properly. Many scenes appeared jumping for no reason. Even the choreography of songs are not that good as the hero is quite tall and the heroine is very short and romance between them failed to match.
ANALYSIS:
Adityababu should restrict himself to production instead of making more attempts for onscreen presence, as his experiment failed to click. It is not known, how the director/ producer could even think of a girl questioning her friendship with a boy a love or attraction with her father. Likewise, it is not our culture, that a son sharing liquor with his father, how close they might be. The censor board should be commended for giving A certificate to this film, though there are not many romantic scenes that could spoil adolescents. But these two instances necessarily demand that the censor board is correct in judging that the film should be given ‘A’ certificate. A film which could be avoided by family and youth audiences.
